The Real Address Book was intriguing from the beginning. Reading the excerpt left me curious and wanting to know more. The book alternates past and present, through entries in Doris' address book. Doris is the main character, a sweet older lady, living in Stockholm. While physically she's not able to do as much, she seems perfectly capable cognitively. In the excerpt, Doris is not given a chance to think or express herself. The next chapter starts to give us history of Doris' childhood and all that she's been through and why the address book means so much to her. While Doris continues to move around, she makes comments about being prepared for her death and ensuring that someone keeps and charishes her things. The writing style of this book is easy to read, but very descriptive.
