This book just wasn’t it for me. I tried to go outside my normal genre and this one fell slightly flat. I did enjoy the book overall, but it was a slow read for me. This could have nothing to do with the book and just my general genre preferences. There was just a bit missing, and honestly I’m Not sure what that thing was/is. It felt like it had too many details for the length of the book. If this book could have been stretched into a longer book or paired with a sequel, I might have liked it more. Please don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the book. Doris and Jenny both touched me deeply with what they had been through in their lives. But, then I did enjoy the sentiment. The hardships both Doris and Jenny have gone through in their lives, and the love they shared was unmatched. I loved how the book took you through the history of Doris and how she came to be a foster mother for Jenny. Both women were written in such an interesting way. I do recommend this book to those who love a good historical fiction.
