The Red Address Book is the heartbreaking, yet heartwarming, charming, and nostalgic story of Doris's life. Now a 96-year-old woman living alone in Sweden, Doris has outlived many of her friends and family, save for her grandniece, Jenny, who holds a very special place in Doris's heart. Lonely and sensing that she will pass away soon as well, Doris combs through her red address book, which catalogs the many people she met over her lifetime, starting with her father, who gave her the book as a birthday present decades ago. She begins to write the story of her life and the stories of these important people for Jenny, so that her story and legacy are left after she passes.

This book reminded me of A Man Called Ove, and I loved Doris as much as Ove. Her story details her many trials and triumphs over her life, from working as one of the first models ("mannequins") in Paris before the Second World War to taking care of her sister in the foreign country of the U.S. after escaping Europe on the brink of war. Doris also shares the story of her one true love in life, Allan, with whom she lost all touch after the Second World War and believes to be dead.

This is a fantastic, cozy read, and I highly recommend it to all. Thank you to Bookish First for my free ARC.
