This book had a slow build that drew me in before unleashing my emotions. This was heartbreaking, think Nicholas Sparks type heartbreak. As Doris recounts her life story it is beautiful and yet hard to read. Through her story, we see happiness and sorrow. Even though it was a slower read, I truly cared about the characters in the end. The writing style is very simplistic and easy to read.

I really like the premise of this book. I think it is so important to record our lives, but also to learn from the generation before us. It is so easy to think we know it all, but there is so much wisdom in those that have gone before us. The idea of recording everything is a beautiful one.

This book while written in a YA style does deal with adult themes such as rape and abuse.
