Seems to be geared primarily to youth

I really like YA generally, but the writing style and content (even from the very first paragraph) lend to a younger demographic. What I love about many YA books is that authors can tell a story with young characters (e.g. high school), but write in such an engaging, mature fashion that both the story itself and the writing can be enjoyed by youth and adults. This book doesn’t seem to have that same wide-range appeal. Teenagers and middle grade students might enjoy the plot and voice of the characters, but I can’t personally say the same for me. Also, the cover doesn’t quite match the story and I wasn’t expecting the plot to be humorous fiction. Although this would be less than 3 stars for my taste, I give it 3 because I think it’s probably more popular with a younger audience.
