I am a teen librarian so I read and hear about a ton of YA. The assassin story line has really been overworked in the YA world so I wasn’t expecting much from this book. I am happy to say my expectations were exceeded. The writing felt more like an adult fantasy. It has more complexity than most YA fantasies so I was quite impressed. The cover also mislead me because it looks like another basic YA fantasy. I should not be surprised coming from this author though. I must admit now she has written one of my secret favorite series, Descendants. I know it’s for young kids but I love the idea of the villains I grew up with having kids. So coming from that I am not entirely surprised that I enjoyed the book.
