Left Me in Limbo
3 out 5 stars
Melissa de la Cruz’s The Queen’s Assassin left me in limbo, unsure if I even enjoyed the book or not.
The pace varied. One minute its pace is so quick that I found myself flying through its pages. And then the next minute I’m dragging my eyes across the paper to get it over with.
I found the character relationships to dry and randomly created to make the typical YA fantasy genre storyline exist. I mean do what sales, but try to make it more your own. I was rolling my eyes to how similar it was to other ya novels I have read in the past.
Also, Shadow’s character development was nonexistent. I knew the ending from the very beginning, but Shadow should have been dropping more indirect hints from the start. And her relationship with Cal was completely forced. I witnessed no chemistry between them. They should stay as friends. The Queen doesn’t need him to be her secret.
The big question is...Will I read book 2?
Of course. Weirdly enough, I need to know what becomes of the characters. This was only the beginning. Maybe it’ll get better.
