I started out really enjoying this book. I kept thinking it was going to be a 4 or 5 star read. The inclusion of in-depth history was a nice set up for the plot and aided in good world building.

I loved the writing style, although I would not say it was different to many authors style, it read very fluently and smooth. The use of two POVs allowed for much greater character depth and I think it was done really well, I quite liked both characters quickly and this continued to grow throughout the book.

However, the author introduces this sense of an great magical, questy plot right from the start but never executes it. After 150ish pages the book almost focuses completely on the romance between our two MCs. I began to resent this focus as I felt like I was reading a 'he loves me, he loves me not' teen high-school drama. The constant back and forth wanting each other to refusing to acknowledge each other. It was exhausting. I wish the plot played a bigger part in this book, especially because it was set up so well before falling flat. The plot twist and ending was also very under whelming and didn't conclude anything, rather just made more questions.
