Agh! Really? I was so excited to win this book from bookish first. There are some things I like about this book and some things I’ve seen over in over in every fantasy young adult book I’ve read. So that being said. It was a struggle for me to give three stars. So we will start with what I didn’t like. I didn’t like that the characters were blah. I couldn’t even see how the assassin went from not knowing this girl, to panicking that he’s lost her . And then saying that she was something. I don’t just like to READ about romance, I want to be able to feel it to some extent. Things I did like, was it was supposed to be about an assassin, and the cover. That’s it. The third star is actually for the cover just alone. I’ve read so many fantasy novels involving kingdoms, and displaced princesses, and magic...it’s essentially the same story over and over. Really the only thing that has changed in each story are the names of the characters. Although the name Caledan seems familiar. This book didn’t have that spark for me. I honestly drug it out for days because I didn’t want to pick it up. So I binged on kdramas instead. *sighs* However, anytime an aurthor writes a book you have to give them credit for the hard work and time that they put into it. And I’m still grateful to have been able to read this ahead of time
