Unfortunately, while this book was one that I was really looking forward to reading - it had a first look that drew me in and a plot description that wowed me - I DNF'd this book about 50% in.
The biggest reason for DNFing the book was that I was not a fan of the writing style, it felt overly descriptive and stilted at the same time. And I'm someone who usually loves lush prose - Laini Taylor and Erin Morgenstern are two of my favorite authors. But The Queen's Assassin reminded me more of the writing from Caraval than Strange the Dreamer or The Night Circus.
Another reason I DNF'd the book was that I did not feel like I connected with the characters or even cared about their motivations to do anything. I was just reading words on a page, and not immersed in the story.
