This book broke my heart in the worst and best ways. I loved the characters and the plot, the fantasy/magical aspect of the book was fascinating. The politics can be hard to follow at times, as there's many kingdoms and past/present issues.
Starting with the characters, the was a shocking reveal at the end (I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be shocking to the readers, because I wasnt). At times, Cal fell flat and seemed like he wasn't truly involved in anything.
That might be due to the POV changes throughout the book, ehich can be frustrating at points.
Also, Cal's character development seemed to be lacking. He was touted as the most dangerous assassin but I felt like we never really got to see that. There was a bit too much insta-love for it to be a win win for me.
Overall though, I enjoyed the read and am looking forward to the next one.
