When I first started reading, I questioned the history at the beginning, mostly because I don’t think it’s effective to have history only in one chapter like it is here. Books like the Witchlands (specifically Sightwitch) and Mistborn that feature history THROUGHOUT the whole book, seem to work better than books that only use it at the beginning or end. Also, it is basically an info dump, something we already got in the blurb, and will likely hear about as the book goes on. Now, if the history changes later on, which I think would be a wonderful plot twist, this history intro could become problematic, because the author would have to explain who wrote this version and how it’s wrong etc. But overall, it sounds like a nice book and I’m looking forward to it. Just the opening throws me for a bit of a loop, but I’m happy with everything after that.
