I have nothing but good things to say about "The Poison Season"! The author has crafted a unique and beautiful (but also beautifully dangerous) world that truly fascinates the reader. There are so many lovely things, but also cruelty and danger. This world is shared with the reader in such detail that you can picture everything and feel like you're interacting with it along with the characters.

The characters themselves, especially Leelo, and detailed and well-written, with enough depth that they seem like real people. Leelo is a good person who has grown up loving her unique world and accepting what she has been told about how things need to be to maintain the status quo.

The story gets interesting when Leelo starts to challenge these beliefs. First her younger brother is banished simply for not developing magical skills, then she meets an outsider. Both relationships, and her feelings about them, cause Leelo to reconsider everything she thought she knew. Since her character had been so clearly established, it was even more interesting to observe her as she tried to make sense of her new thoughts and experiences.

So, you have a wonderful, unique magical setting, some amazing characters, and a deep storyline about family, love, and finding out for yourself what matters most. I highly recommend this book!
