It's no secret that one of my favorite settings is a creepy forest, and The Poison Season did not disappoint, not only has a forest but also a poisoned lake. Only with that, it's a need to read it.

Tropes:
Dangerous forest and lake
A small secret isolated village
Magic music
Family dynamic
Dual POV

I like Leelo, she is compassionate, loves her family, and doesn’t quite belong, her village has hard rules to protect themselves and those rules do not allow his brother to continue living on the island, because he doesn’t have magic.

Jaren is brave and a little lost and he loves her sisters, family is important for both.

Endla is a dangerous place, Jaren is in trouble and Leelo finds him. The writing is slow and addictive, you just want to know more about the island and if they were discovered. The romance, is sweet, first love and forbidden romance.

It’s standalone, I think the ending was a bit rushed but Leelo’s story has closure and I like it. What I was missing was more about the forest, why it’s so bloodthirsty.

Overall was good, a slow-burn story with nice characters, interesting world-building and written style with a good mix between family, romance, and fantasy.
