Leelo is a resident of Endla a place with a lake made of poison and a treacherous forest. One day she saves (a man? a boy? a guy?) Jaren from drowning. However, outsiders don't belong in Endla, and she should have let him drown, so she hides him from all the people she loves.

I'll admit that I was captivated by this GORGEOUS cover, and the premise of the book hooked me next. However, trying to get interested in The Poison Season was really difficult. For starters, I'd say for about the first half of the book, I had only a vague idea of who the main characters were. Why? There are SO MANY characters. So many. I'm generally not opposed to large casts. Hey, the more the merrier right? But to be honest I had a really hard time keeping track of all of them. Unfortunately, this made me lose interest more than once. Don't get me wrong. The world building is great here, and Leelo and Jaren were good characters, but it took me a great many pages to like them.

For me this was an okay book.
