This was a really interesting, well written novel! I enjoyed that it was a thriller but also mixed in a modern fiction element. I liked Jean Hanff Korelitz's writing style. At the start of the novel, I was thinking it was a little slow, but towards the end of the story I could not put the book down! I really enjoyed the "book within a book" aspect. It was fun to read the "Crib" and see it intertwine with the other plot. I was not expecting the book to take a dark turn, but I was happy it did! I love when there is a twist you don't expect.
The author did a good job creating complex characters. There was a lot of development in Jake especially. You felt bad for him, you questioned his values and the way his morality was put into question that weaved back into the overall plot was great! If you're looking for a straight up thriller - this would probably not be the book you would choose. But if you want a fiction that is a a little creepy at times - this one's for you!
Would definitely recommend more of Korelitz's books in the future!
