I did really enjoy reading this book but unfortunately I did like it a lot less than I had thought I would. It has an interesting plot, which is a writer named Jake who steals the plot of a late student of his, who never was able to publish his book. Jake grapples with the justified guilt he has created for himself, his new marriage to enigmatic and beautiful Anna, and the mystery of someone who cannot leave him alone. He receives haunting and threatening by messages to himself and Anna about his lies and how he will be exposed, coming from a secretive social media user called Talented Tom, as an ode to Patricia Highsmith’s “The Talented Mr. Ripley”. What made me didn’t enjoy the book as much as I had hoped was the lackluster writing. It was flowery and descriptive, but I never felt like I learned that much about any of our characters. Too much description but there wasn’t enough substance.
