I read this for a book club and it turned out to be really really not my thing.
I found the plot to be quite predictable not to mention overly explained at the end. I also struggled quite a lot with the sheer number of parentheticals scattered throughout. There are 14 in the first 2.5 pages.
Just not really my thing. I probably would have DNFd this one if it hadn’t been for a book group.

Overall, this was the story of a teacher who uses a plot his student told him about, prior to the student’s death. As one might imagine, this does not go unnoticed. The bulk of the story is the narrator fighting his personal demons that are mostly related to guilt over “stealing” from his dead student. Unfortunately, this entire portion of the plot could have been resolved by simply dedicating the book to his late student - he wouldn’t be the first real author to do so.
