Jake is a One Hit Wonder novelist who decides to steal the plot of a former MFA student he taught. Said student was a class A jerk who went about bragging about how this book would go on to sell millions of copies, be selected as an Oprah Book Club pick, you get the picture. He only tells Jake about said plot, and he agrees that this book is destined to great success.
Jake discovers a few years later that this student has died, and this amazing book has never been published. So, he decides to “steal” this plot (although he isn’t convinced he is doing anything wrong) and goes on to great success, finds the love of his life, and starts working on his next book. Then, he starts getting mysterious messages from an anonymous person threatening to out him as a thief of the former students story. How does this person know? Did the former student reveal his plot to someone else? And what harm is this person capable of?
Have to say, loved the writing, I became somewhat reclusive in my home to finish reading it (sorry husband!). Highly recommend!
