Jacob Finch Bonner is a writer whose first book was praised, but now teaches in a second rate MFA program, after his second book fell flat. He has grandiose aspirations to make it as a superstar writer, but he has writer's block, is uninspired and stuck. Once of his students, an obnoxious, arrogant man, reveals the plot of a book he plans to write. This plot is so unique that it will guarantee that the book will be an enormous success - a sure thing. A few years later, Jacob is meandering along in his downwardly mobile career and looks into why this "sure thing" has never been published. He learns that the student is dead, and makes a decision to appropriate the plot and write the bestseller. He cannot foresee what a terrible decision this will be. Someone out there knows he has stolen the plot and is not at all happy about it. The Plot is a book within a book, as we get to read portions of Jacob's book, Crib, as we follow his story. The Plot is skillfully paced, ramping up from a slow burn to a high intensity fast-paced denouement. There is twist within twist. Even the title has a clever double meaning. The commentary on writers, the publishing industry and the literary world makes The Plot even more interesting. Much sleep was lost reading this brilliant literary thriller. #ThePlotBook #CeladonReads #partner #BookishFirst @CeladonBooks
