“Good writers borrow, great writers steal.”-TS Eliot

When shelved novelist, Jacob Finch Bonner, comes across an arrogant student with an amazing plot for a book, he waits for it to break on the scene. It never does. He finds out the student died, and apparently the plot with him. What is a novelist to do? He writes his own book using the plot and quickly shoots to fame.

I love loved this one! I will admit, it took me a few chapters to get through. The writing is intelligent and deep... this is not a novel that you can jump in and out of easily. You need to sit with it and absorb; at least in the beginning. Once I got used to the writing style, it clicked and I sped through it. I keep comparing the writing style to the Goldfinch, really only because it was the same way for me. This book took me places I was not expecting. I loved how meta it was and how the Plot was not revealed until a crucial moment in the actual story we are reading. I did see a twist coming a bit before I was probably supposed to, but that took away absolutely no enjoyment from me because this book 👏🏻 is 👏🏻 just 👏🏻 amazing. It is rare that I find a thriller that excites me and sparks my intellect.. but this did it!

“All of it, painting and choreography and poetry and photography and performance art and the ever-fluctuating novel, was whirling away in an unstoppable spin art machine of its own. And that was a beautiful, thrilling thing.”

The Plot comes out 5/11.
