The main character, Evan, is self-entitled, whiny, and unscrupulous. He spends most of his time feeling sorry for himself as an author of only one book. Now he has no choice but to join the ranks of loser academia to pay the bills. His students are uninspiring, except for one arrogant guy with a great idea for a best-selling novel.

There are fewer things in life more disheartening than people like the characters in this book. If that wasn't bad enough, the book is long and painfully drawn-out. I had to make myself read it until it finally got interesting about two-thirds of the way through.

There was one plot twist that caught me unawares, but most of the book was predictable and boring. I had expected a delicious amount of suspense due to the marketing blitz that preceded the book; however, it simply did not transpire. It was a disappointing read.
