Ooh this sounds really interesting. At first I was thinking it had vibes from "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" and then as I went on it also seemed like it combined in some elements of the movie "Yesterday," both of which I really enjoyed. I like the mystery element that this introduces and I can't wait to see what's going on.
