I really enjoyed this book and read it in a day. It had all the elements I look for in a thriller - well written but accessible and disturbing and page turning. The story of a young boy admitted to a state mental hospital after experiencing night terrors leads to an ambitious new doctor trying to help the man he has grown into. But we don’t know what’s caused the breakdown of this man who has been locked away for decades and what happens to the doctor who finally tries to save him when all others have failed? It was definitely creepy and atmospheric but also cringeworthy in all the best thriller ways. I read a blurb that describes it as “If Stephen King had written The Silent Patient” and that’s incredibly accurate!

It was strange and dark and gritty which are the types of books I’m drawn to. It would definitely categorize it as horror but it was also incredibly suspenseful so people who don’t normally read horror might enjoy it.
