Great debut!
Thank you to Bookish First and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing for this ARC.
This novel follows a psychiatrist named Parker, as he chronicles his first job at a state mental hospital. Parker is fascinated with a 36 year old patient who has been at the facility since he was 6 and has no diagnosis.
The first thing that I really enjoyed about this book was the unique format. It is told as a series of posts to a medical message board. I think that this format helped keep me interested and made me want to read more.
The story is short and addicting. I could have easily finished this in a day. The writing style is quick and really plot driven. There are not that many characters and they are not really well developed but the story didn't need them to be.
I didn't enjoy the ending and found it didn't match where I thought the story was going.
Overall, I think this is a great debut novel.
