A jarring horror novella

In my opinion, The Patient was more of a novella (it made me think of Gillian Flynn’s The Grown Up). Though it was shorter than I expected, I could not put it down and read it in one sitting! While it was marketed as a medical thriller, this definitely had an element of horror to it. The plot was fast-paced and utterly engrossing, but if I’m honest, the writing was a bit subpar. It was almost like reading a report of what happened rather than experiencing it alongside the characters. A tell rather than a show, if you will. I think the story would have been more compelling if it had been fleshed out more - the ending came too quickly in my view! That said, it was a fast and entertaining read.
