We are dropped in at the beginning of the first impression at the year 2008 and Parker is reflecting back upon something that happened in the early 2000's. I really like that the book takes place in Connecticut. To me I find Parker to be quite cocky, but I actually really like that. I feel like he is a very curious narrator that I find myself wanting to know even more about him. He wants to stay close to his fiancee and ends up working at a mental health hospital.
Parker's narration include the original physician’s notes. These drew me in! The original notes are from 1973 and are about a six year old boy, Joseph. Joseph is now a man- and will be Parker's patient. The physician only saw Joseph once and left it at that. Joseph has been kept in isolation by order of the medical director.
