The story being told in first person as journal entries from a psychiatrist is really unique and really adds to the story. The style of the writing is as if a doctor had written the story. The first person style really shows what this psychiatrist was thinking and feeling in his decision to work at this hospital and to want to try to treat Joe. I like that as a reader, I’m discovering information about Joe when the narrator does. The notes in the file from when Joe was first admitted are slightly vague, leaving the reader, and the narrating psychiatrist, wondering about the mystery behind Joe’s illness. I want to keep reading to find out more! Was there really a monster after Joe, so that something supernatural is behind his condition? Can Parker the psychiatrist find the truth and cure Joe? Or will Parker go mad just like the others who got too close to Joe?
