Yay gay soccer!
Trigger Warnings: Transphobia, homophobia, religion, injuries, school lockdown, threat, religious haunted house
Representation: Transgender Male, POC (black), Gay, Non-binary, Autism, Interracial couple, Bisexual
The Passing Playbook is a YA novel about Spencer, a transgender man, who goes to a new school and joins the soccer team. His parents do not support the idea after “the incident” at his previous school, so Spencer has to balance school, soccer, lying to his parents, and hiding who he really is from his new classmates.
Overall, I absolutely loved this story! I love a happy ending and was so touched by the ceremony at the end! I felt this was an easy read and such a quick, enjoyable one! The ending was so soft and tender and happy!
I loved reading about such a supportive family and I loved the cast of side characters! Spencer’s soccer team and QSA both captured the positives and negatives of high school life in an authentic way.
