The Passing Playbook is a cute, fun read. I liked how the Christian/Religious element was handled. The other really good aspect is how Fitzsimons shows how you don’t have to do huge things to change the life of others. It was the small little acts of kindness that made a difference. The only issue is there was so much going on. Take every single designation you can think of which is an endangered or discriminatory group of people and it’s in the book. It felt like there were too many of the tropes used. It would have been nice for him to have just stuck to one issue- Gay, Trans, black, religion, sports, autism, small town, legal battles, etc. Instead it’s like every single thing that could be covered was put in the book. I did love the characters and it kind of showed how every single person out there has their own battles. I loved the soccer element.
