"The Passing Playbook" by Issac Fitzsimmons is just what I was looking for. A cute coming of age YA realistic story. It was adorable. It was heartwarming. It was a great book to curl up to and feel good about after reading.
Is the book completely realistic? Probably not, but in this I don't actually find an issue. Though I like books to be realistic (unless they're fantasy or sci-fi) I thought the idealized nature and the everything ends all nice and neat with a fancy bow was really nice. Given the trans and non binary folks have so few books where they are even represented it was nice to see a character who was represented with a happy ending.
I appreciate Fitzsimmons's writing style as well. It was engaging and interesting to read. I kept wanting to know what would happen next. The book is easy to read and quick but also provides a lot of great food for thought. In the end what made this book a winner is that it is hopeful and cute.
