Whether the author and the publisher intended the timing or not, this book is about a VERY timely issue right now, and from all I can see from the first look, this could be a great story that humanizes the issue and a lot of legislation being discussed right now. I like how the focus is more on Spencer fitting in at his new school and not as much about the transition process or how the coming out process went with his parents. It moves the story to the next step that often isn't the focus of books and seems to do so in a way that addresses many issues any teenager would face - like crushing on a classmate and starting at a new school - as well.
