Lauren Acampora’s book, Paper Wasp, is such a unique story that tries to be so many things and yet passes and fails at doing what it promises. Abby, the woman the reader is introduced as the narrator, is hard to like and I was excited reading someone who has unlikable tendencies because the reader still rooted for her on how real she felt. Acampora’s way with words is alluring but felt, at times, to be too much and hard for the reader to focus on the main plot, so the readers eyes were on the things that were of less importance to the story. As the story progressed, it was difficult to pinpoint where the plot was going and Acampora did well in hiding her ending, but with her audience it may have confused them in trying to understand how the story was “supposed to go.” I’m glad to have finished Paper Wasp without “dreaming.” I’m okay with not understanding Perren and Abby’s connection.
