I was equally mesmerized by the story and repulsed by it. I spent my read sympathizing with, emphasizing with, and scolding the main character, Em. She made stupid decisions. She was blinded to the obvious. She was "in love". This author made bold choices and didn't stick to the evil mother-in-law formula on this one. It really works. I loved this book.
