Ahhhh! This book!!!!! Okay, so I was completely intrigued by the idea of a female Merlin. Especially since it wasn't the kind of book that replaces the gender- She's the sister, and her dad was also the head wizard in charge at one point. Her brother is the one invited to the castle, but in this version, stuff happens and he's indisposed for a week, so she goes in his place. Not so spoiler alert, her brother decides she should stay in his place because he is no longer interested in the position due to things that you find out when you read the book yourself. Lol. I love the take on the characters too, especially since in the world Merlin is in, it's illegal for her to not only do magic, but to dress as a man. The king really hates, well, everyone, but especially women. If I'm being fair, I don't think men are allowed to wear women clothes either but still. He used his wife as a baby maker until it literally killed her because he hates his son.

There were things I didn't find believable either, like how he figured out he was attracted to Merlin, but he doesn't like men so he didn't understand. Before this point, they didn't have any moments that would really seem like he'd be interested, especially since he's straight and would have no reason. I'm still team E&A! I really hope this series sees them together to the end, I don't care who he was married to in the original stories, I want this.
