This is a new and inventive retelling of Arthur and Merlin. Emry Merlin takes the place of her twin brother, making her "the other merlin," and she goes to the castle to train as a wizard's apprentice. There she meets Prince Arthur, his best friend Lance, and many other nobles and court insiders. It also turns out the Emry is a very powerful wizard, so there is a side plot of her discovering powerful magic.
I really enjoyed this book; I liked seeing how Emry and Arthur's relationship evolved (especially because they got to know each other first when she was disguised). I also really enjoyed many of the side characters. Lance was one of my favorites, and I'm rooting for him and hoping for his happiness in the next book. Speaking of the next book, I'm hoping to see more of Emry and Arthur working together. Also, I'm hoping to see how the whole country conflict works out and if Arthur is able to unite the country.
