As a middle-schooler/high-schooler, I couldn't get enough of Arthur stories. The Once and Future King, The Mists of Avalon, the BBC Merlin series, and at least a dozen other lesser known re-tellings. After a while, it got kind of heavy and exhausting to read. Arthur's death is always tragic, Guinevere and Lancelot are miserable, and I never WANT to read about the endless drama in-between.

It's been a while since I picked up a Camelot re-telling. "The Other Merlin" is an excellent and refreshing breath of air in this universe. There's comedy, character growth, and a fun story line. Follow the magic of the tale from the perspective of a girl-- Emry Merlin is everything I'd want to see in a female wizard. She's smart, daring, loyal, funny, and good at magic.
I look forward to book 2 of this trilogy. Since it is an Arthurian retelling, I don't expect a happy ending. Yet, I appreciate the happiness found in the journey of growth of Merlin and Arthur.

I highly recommend this book!Thank you Bookishfirst and VIking Books for a copy of this book. I LOVE the bright pink binding cover- I usually take off the book sleeves when I read a hardcover, and I had so much fun carrying my crazy bright pink book :)
