I read this book in two sittings and I was absolutely obsessed. The writing style was flawless, the world lively, and the characters eccentric and fantastic. Unlike a lot of Arthurian retellings, the author clearly knew her audience and didn't make it too pretentious, nor did she make it "modern" or "alternative" in a desperate bid to appeal to teens. I'm kicking myself for not entering the raffle due to the cover!
Despite the fact that there were multiple points of views throughout the course of the book, I was immersed in each and every one of them, which is so rare and a mark of the author's talent. I loved watching the relationship between Emry and Arthur progress, and how she fell into castle life pretending to be a guy. This is extremely impressive too, considering I usually hate YA romances—but I actually wanted there to be more in this case! My only criticisms were that the book is a little bit NLOG in its depiction of female characters aside from Emry, and apologetic in its depiction of male sexism. Additionally, I wish there had been more romance between Arthur and Emry while she was still masquerading as a guy (it would really hammer in the bisexual love-has-no-gender thing).
