There are so many retellings of the King Arthur story that it sometimes feels as though it's difficult to get a fresh take on it. But after reading just the first few chapters, I can already tell that this is an entirely new view of a story that's incredibly old.

The characters are great! They're well-created, with a great sense of humor and very strong personalities. I loved the idea of Merlin being one of a set of twins, and there being an element of gender-swapping to the story, which always makes me a lot more intrigued. I'm looking forward to getting to know the characters more.

As for the plot, I loved that it starts before the characters are too far along in their destinies. Arthur has only recently pulled the sword from the stone, Merlin is only an apprentice, and Lancelot is a guard. They're so young, and I am curious to see how this all plays out, especially since their roles are defined so differently than the usual, tired story.

This is a great story, and while I already wanted to read it, the first look has made me ravenous for more.
