When I first read the synopsis of "The Orphan Collector" about a historical fiction setting against the backdrop of the influenza pandemic of 1918, I was thrilled! This is a subject not often explored in HF and something that I would like to read more as a HF lover.

Unfortunately, this book didn't work for me. With overly long paragraphs and dense sentences, even though I fairly enjoyed the writing, these aspects made it hard to focus and I struggled to keep reading it. I thought that the German perspective was quite interesting and insightful. While I didn't finish this book, I believe that there should be some emotional moments filled with Pia's resilience, determination and hope which will please many readers as well as be an inspiration for others.

Overall I do enjoy immigrant narratives and "The Orphan Collector" would be great for HF lovers or readers who enjoy an immigrant's tale.
