"The Orphan Collector" is a stunning yet heartbreaking novel in the historical fiction genre. Taking place in Philadelphia, PA, during the Spanish flu outbreak, Pia is a young independent girl who ventures out into the city to find food and important materials for her sick family. However, a dark and evil individual, Bernice, is mentally unstable. She considers herself a saviour but maliciously wants to take orphans away from their family, as she has lost her own child to the flu.
I found this book to be a little slow going as we are introduced to Pia and Bernice. However, I did enjoy the content, the plot, and the characters. I would recommend this novel and the author who wrote it. I expect great things in the future from this author.
