I have not read any of Ellen Marie Wiseman's previous work, so I did not know what to expect from this story. Her writing is just enthralling. I initially felt that there was a lot of description and was curious about Pia's odd affliction, but the more I read the more I wanted to continue. I love how the places, people, and emotions just come alive. You get a real sense of the fear, dread, and grief of the city during the Spanish flu epidemic. The emotions are so varied and ring true across several themes. I look forward to reading more of this story as soon as it is available to me.
