Almost 10 years prior- during an unsuccessful elk hunt four childhood friends Ricky, Lewis, Cassidy and Gabriel commit a violent act that violates their Native American culture. Their transgression invokes the wrath of a vengeful entity that will stop at nothing to settle the score. Now- nearing the 10 year anniversary of that day, the hunters will become the hunted as the entity seeks justice against them and the ones they love.

The Only Good Indians is a unique and culturally diverse horror novel. The novel begins with what becomes ruled as an accidental death however, the POV of the character reveals something much more sinister in nature. The novel then picks up almost 10 years later with each of the remaining men continuing on with their lives. As the anniversary of the event approaches strange things begin to occur. Soon the men discover that their deeds have not been forgotten as the elk head woman comes to claim her violent revenge. The novel kicks off with an action packed scene that really grabbed my attention. The use of inner dialogue allows the reader to really experience each of the characters turmoil as events unfold. There were some parts of the novel that felt really slow in which the story seems to deviate from the plot and focus on seemingly irrelevant plot points. The book begins with Lewis's story and that's were things get really strange. Not strange in a bad way per say, it quickly takes a very surreal and violent turn. Overall I really enjoyed reading this unique story but there were just a few elements that left me leaning more towards a 3 star rating than a 4.
