Wow, what an impressive read. I love horror stories and have read many in the genre. The Only Good Indians is like nothing I've ever read. Firstly, I love that the main characters are Native Americans. That in itself was reason enough for me to be interested in the book. I love that the author is also Native American and gives us a first hand look at the culture and its people.
The story builds up slowly but once it picked up it caught me by surprise. I did not expect the disturbing turns the story took. I was so shocked and mortified. I was left thinking about the story days after I finished reading. That's how I knew the impact it had. Only a writer with a very special talent would be able to impact a reader like this. Now I understand why this novel has won so many awards. I plan to read this author's other novels and highly recommend his work to others.
