This is a story of four friends who are haunted by something or someone ten years after they did a terrible thing during an elk hunt. In a sense, this is a story of revenge and justice (if it can be called that).
Almost right away I realized that I didn't like the writing style. It's hard to explain it, but at times it felt like i was sifting through tons of grains of sand to find a diamond. There were sentences that didn't make sense, it was hard to follow who was who or where in time we were in the narrative. The pacing was off as well. Some sections dragged on for so long that it felt they would never end, while on different pages something very important will be done in a blink of an eye.
I mostly enjoyed the sections that dealt with the life in a reservation, the folklore, traditions, etc. The horror aspect of the novel didn't do anything for me. Be aware, the book is very gory and the gore is extremely detailed. But I wouldn't say that it was scary.
