Excellent Horror Novel with Unique Insight
The Only Good Indians follows four friends, born and raised on the Blackfeet reservation, who violently violate tribal law and are finally faced with the true consequences a decade later.
The author does an excellent job developing characters you are care about, and then swiftly brings them down in horrifying ways you don’t see coming. Relationships between old friends, a father and daughter, and lovers are set on fire in ways that are can both be heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once.
The aspect that truly sets this novel apart is the social insight into the Native American culture that is unlike anything I have read before. You are faced with the poignant connection and oppression of the community while the ancient entity is on the hunt.
