I really enjoyed this book. It's dark, eerie, literary. It's different.

I think The Only Good Indians is best approached as literary fiction with horror elements (as opposed to expecting a full on horror story). It feels like campfire folklore, this tale of horror based on the ideal to honor a hunted creature, a hunting trip that snowballs out of control, and four Native American men who go against their better judgement and face terrifying consequences a decade later. Ancestral memories pass down survival knowledge and a primal drive for revenge, framed as supernatural rebirth. It's all so spooky.

I loved the first part: Lewis's dog the light and ceiling fan, confiding in his coworker- familiarity from their shared heritage lending a trust that Lewis couldn't find with his wife- the slow burn build to horrifying intensity...

I loved the second part, too, but no spoilers here. The third part lost my interest a little bit, however I was right back in the story by the conclusion. I think this is a strong novel. I enjoyed it immensely and would LOVE to see this turned into a movie.
