I am once again amazed by SGJ's way with words. He has such an intriguing, strange way of portraying horror in his stories and this was no exception to the masterful writing he's capable of! I also can't help but point out how much I enjoy the own-voices Native American rep in his stories and what a central part of them it tends to be. I highly recommend this new literary horror read to anyone who doesn't mind a more subtle, creeping dread in their stories.

I will say that I can see how this may not be for EVERY reader, since SGJ does tend to have a very specific way of combining drama, emotions, and social commentary that doesn't necessarily lend itself to a lot of jump scares or outright terrifying moments. If you're looking for hack-em-slash-em and gore, you won't find that here, but I think it's fair to assume you may leave with a few nightmares of another nature...
