What a fantastic beginning! Both lead characters are compelling, and the conflict is set up right away. The background of a school shooting is heavy stuff, but the author handles such serious topics with a delicate hand and it never feels exploitative. I really enjoy the introduction scene to the group of four friends - four students met in a support group after the school shooting, become close, and agree to bury a time capsule in which they store letters to their future selves. The plan is to meet up ten years after their high school graduation and read the letters - it's been twelve years, but the four are finally reunited when a documentary crew brings them together to film interviews about the shooting. I can already tell I'll be interested to read future books about each of these characters. A great setup to for a book, definitely left me wanting to read the whole thing.
