Amidst the breakdown of Earth's environment and possibly upcoming apocalypse, two sisters struggle to survive. Cee is stranded on an abandoned island, fueled only by her endless determination and desperation to get back to her sister. Kasey is dealing with the loss of her sister, who has been declared dead though no body has been found and no one knows why she went missing. Their bond transcends everything and connects two girls who could not be more different. As each of them faces their own set of challenges, a disturbing truth is revealed that changes the course of their lives forever.

Joan He's prose is absolutely breathtaking and unforgettable. She weaves together an engaging tale of sisterly love, environmental disaster, and an examination of humanity. Her writing style and the story within kept me thinking while reading about the many things I personally as well as others do to our world, and what that may mean in the future.

I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that there were no instances of info dumping, relevant information was revealed at the right moment, and the suspense was never ending. The mystery surrounding each sisters' situation is confounding and intriguing and made it so hard to put the book down. The characters are so real and human, and it was no chore to care about them or connect to them.

The very few things I found that detracted from all the good were the storyline moved a bit fast at times, resulting in some confusion, and the ending was rather abrupt.
